The ATF had been investigating John Caleb Allen for selling illegal machine gun conversion devices. An operation was set up where a confidential source purchased 13 of these MCDs as well as 2 firearms on June 23rd 2025 in an attempt to get proof of Allen's crimes. Officers followed Allen and watched him illegally acquire the 2 firearms he planned to distribute to the source. This gave them enough evidence to gain a search warrant for Allen's house.
As the ATF agents approached John Allen's front door, 14 shots rang out. Grazing one officer, and hitting the body armor of another. Neither were injured. Officers did not return fire and managed to arrest Allen, coaxing him out with his hands in the air. The ATF agents expectedly found numerous firearms, as well as an unregistered silencer.
Sentencing for Allen will begin on February 17th 2026, totaling 10 counts of convictions.
